Whether you know them or not. If your eyes meet their eyes, smile. Whether you’re standing in line at the checkout, paying the toll booth collector, or you just ran into your arch nemesis from high school, smiling goes a long way. We smile at friends all the time. And this funny thing happens when you start smiling at strangers. They smile back. And you meet more people, have more amazing conversations, and make more friends. A smile is an instantaneous and always understand invitation to connect. It is recognition from one human to another, across all boundaries, prejudices, and languages. Smiles are quite possibly our one true universal language.
